In Reply to: 15 month-old son allergic to Hickory wood? posted by Tammy on December 08, 1999 at 08:13:37:

: My 15 month-old son recently broke out in a rash covering his body. The only thing we could think of that was different, was that his daddy had been cutting hickory wood earlier in the day and might have had some sawdust on his clothes when he picked him up. His allergy specialist ran some tests, but failed to test for hard wood or hickory. Now, after playing with his daddy's shoes, he has the rash on his hands only. Has anyone heard of being allergic to hickory? We use the wood in our smoker and I'm afraid to feed him any meat that we have smoked in it. Should I be concerned about the smoke or just the sawdust? Any suggestions would be appriciated greatly.

I would call your allergists office and ask to speak to his nurse and tell her about this new problem. Have her alert the doctor so she can get back to you asap about this. It should not take long for her to get back to you if you call as soon as you read this and that should ease your mind when you know what the doctor wants to do about this situation.
