Just for the record memory loss & dementia can occur from low-thyroid which is common in menopausal women, so be sure to check the thyroid board and have her tested....it is easily treated, but not so easy to find docs that will test and diagnose properly.
Be sure to see about.com/thyroid also....maybe this is not her problem at all, but my mom had all the hypothyroid symptoms and was never diagnosed...died of "alzheimers". I also had all the symptoms and severe memory loss, and "normal" levels, but not normal for me! Now I am on med and am getting well. It is worth it to check it out! Do your research first though to avoid frustaration and unecessary misdiagnosis.
