: My mother has had Alzheimers for 15 years. She is in the hospital with impacted intestines. She has been in the hospital for 6 days and nothing seems to clear the blockage. The doctors do not want to perform surgery. My mother has been healthy up to now except for the Alzheimers. Has anyone else had this experience? If so, what was the outcome?
I feel so bad for your situation, as all of us who view this message board for help, understanding, and support.
The experience my family had with my mothers blockage did not result in hospitalization, but it could have been very near to that.
As awful as the situation was, my sister worked her way through it with mom, and had a mess all over her bedroom and bathroom when things finally let loose. It made my mom very weak, and my sister as well, since she got little sleep worring about mom and listening for every sound in
the night. The blockage worked it's way out and I'm sure mom has no idea what occured. She has been living with me for the past 9 months, and I too am afraid of each symptom that occures. What will be the outcome?
How old is your Mom? Mine will be 78 in Aug.
I've been told that each physical event, (illness, surgery, trauma) will cause another level of decline, and I am inclined to believe this.
Answering a question with a question; has anyone else found this to be true?
This is hard, strength needs to be renewed each day to see our loved ones as the now are, and be able to deal with it in a loving way. Good luck to you!
