In Reply to: Motor Vehicle Accident has caused numerous problems, can anyone help me? posted by Teri on May 19, 2000 at 02:13:27:

: On May 11, 1999 I was in a serious car accident. The doctors say I have something similar to Shaken Baby Syndrome. I suffer from blurred vision, sometimes double vision, memory loss (short and long term)I feel like I am drunk all of the time. I lose my balance, my speach is slurred and this all gets worse if I over exert myself or get excited or upset. Can someone please give me some suggestions on what I can do? I am only 35 years old and I don't want to spend the rest of my life like this. Thank you.

It sounds as if you have a mild head injury. Did you see a neurologist? I've seen people with mild head injuries, and it is common for doctors to minimize the impact that it can have on your day to day life. I think this is because many of them are not trained to treat it. I would ask the doctor to recommend a referral to a physiatrist; this is an MD who specializes in rehabilitation. Also you might try to look up the local chapter of the Head Injury Association...although I'm not sure of the exact name. Don't give up, your youth will be an asset in your recovery.
