Did your mother's alzheimer's start with her inability to read? We first noticed several years ago that my mother could not see her watch and recently that she was not able to read the newspaper. She has been to opthamologists and neurologists and has had differing opinions but no real medical reason. An MRI did show some atrophy but apparantly not in the same area of the brain as is typical with Alzheimers. So I am wondering (hoping) that it will just affect her vision. Her memory is still fine. She also has been taking Exelon which has not really helped her ability to read, but supposedly helps delay the progress of Alzheimers in mild to moderate cases.

How long was it before your mom began to lose other abilities and was she on any type of medication?
