Doris, my heart goes out to you!!!!!!!!
My mother died of this, too. It is so tragic.

Please read all you can about thyroid imbalance, see this website's thyroid Board, about.com/thyroid.
I am sure my mother was hypothyroid, and I am, though my lab test showed in normal range. An end to hypothyroidism can be dementia and coma.
I am seeing an endocrinologist now that keeps my TSH well at the very lower end of the TSH test, which level most doctors do not even treat!
I went disabled from over 20 years of non-diagnosis, lost my memery, etc.
Now I am well!
Maybe this is not your family problem, OK? But maybe it IS.
It is so worth it to learn all you can.
This is one of the most mis-diagnosed illnesses.
Don't take a doctor's word that you are not hypothyroid until YOU understand what YOU need.
People at those sites will help tyou get the info you need.
May God bless you with recovery and your personal solution!
