I've been anemic for several years and tried many forms of iron (tablets, liquid, iron sulfate, iron gluconate, veggie iron supplements). When I take the iron, I break out in hives. How can I be allergic to iron? I've considered injections, but am concerned I'll have an allergic reaction. I know all the foods that have iron, and try to supplement my diet with them. I know that vitamin C increases iron absorption. But it's discouraging to have a Hgb of around 8 and be allergic to iron...any ideas?
