I'm a college student just diagnosed with iron-deficient anemia. My hemoglobin level is at 10.6 and my ferritin level is 1. i have seen two doctors now and all that has been done is iron supplements. My diet has always been healthy with red meat and lots of green vegetables. One doctor has said that my ferritin level is the lowest he has ever seen and is doubtful that my diet has caused this problem, no occult blood has been found in my stool and I have light, regular menstual periods. If anyone can help me with some info I would be much abliged. Should I see a hematologist?
