: Hi!
: My brother has just been diagnosed by the blood bank with a ferritin level of 6.
: His hemoglobin levels are OK though.
: Anyway my Mum is really worried. So if anyone has any sort of information or experiences
: with this, we would really appreciate a post back!!
: My brother is almost 30 years old and is generally very healthy. He eats a heap of
: fruit and vegatables so I doubt that he is lacking in Vitamin C - and I doubt that he is not getting
: enough iron from his diet. From what I have read its reasonably unusual for a male to have
: such a low level.
: Does anyone have any clues about what could be wrong??
: Thanks for this
: Chantelle

If you have a ferritin level below 13 or 14 get yourself to a hemotologist very soon ( like NOW ). my wife has ended up in ICU with a hemoglobin of 5 and is now doing okay thanks to her hemotologist and the iron shots she is getting.
Since i am a little weird take the following with a grain of salt... i personally suspect the antihistimine that is found in Alka Selzer Plus when taken to excess. If you are gobbling up a lot of cold remedies that contain antihistimine you sure better follow directions very carefully.
