: My mother-in-law, who lives in Mexico, has arthiritis which has gotten so severe that she can no longer get out of bed. As far as I know, she has no access to any kind of healthcare or medications. Her only relatives down there don't know what to do to help her. Can someone tell me how I can help from here in Chicago. I don't make much money, but I plan to start mailing any kind of over-the-counter medications that I can get. Are there any charitable organizations in Mexico that might be able to help her before she gets worse. Please help us with any information that you can give.
: Thank You
There are a variety of natural supplements that have helped tremendously to relieve the affects of osteoarthritis. The main supplements are Glucosamine Sulfate and Chondrotin Sulfate. She should be taking 2,000-2,500 mg of each perday to start. After 6 weeks of this regimen, the pain should be easing up. These are elements that are naturally in our bodies, but due to aging, they are depleted, and need to be replenished. My mother-in-law who is 76 took 1500 mg. per day, and her aches and pains subsided. I recommended a higher dose for your mother-in-law since it appears she can not walk or is in intense pain. You must take these supplements for 6-8 weeks before the benefits are derived, since they must be absorbed into the body's systems and joints before relief is felt. Search out various health food stores for a good price; prices really vary on this product.
