: I just started my gold treatment and would like to hear from people's experience on this treatment. My doctor feels that I can be on the shots for numerous years. The shots have helped me greatly, but I am concerned about the long term effects. Has anyone been on the gold and went off and stayed in remission?
Anything I say should not be a substitute for advice from your doctor. Gold therapy is often used in Rheumatoid Arthritis (but I dont know thats the type of arthritis you have). Often the dose is started low and increased over some time. Sometimes treatment has to stop because of side-effects. A good number of people respond well to this therapy.
The therapy is often continued for about 20 weeks (unless side-effects interfere). After the first 20 weeks the drug is given in lower doses and may be given less often. If you notice any skin problems or mouth problems, contact your doctor. There are blood tests and urine tests that are often done while on this drug.
