I am a certified fitness trainer, so I know a bit about this. It sounds like your quadraceps muscles
need strengthening. If I were you I would try to consult with a physical therapist so they could
tailor some exercises just for you. In the mean time you may want to start easy with these
exercises if they don't hurt your knee. (1) Sit in a chair with good back support, place your
feet on another chair of the same height, straighten out both legs, then relax. Try doing this
several times (10-20), then rest. Try doing these 1-2 times/day. It's a start. This makes the
knee cap move. The quads staighten out the leg and help support the knee joint. If your
doc or physical therapist ok it you may be able to work up to doing full extensions on a
machine in a gym or with ankle weights at home.
(2)Another way to work these muscles that most people consider safe ( and swear by for arthritis)
is aqua aerobics (or just walking/jogging in the water). I teach aqua classes and I just love it!!
Get in the water and move as much as you can! You don't want to lose the use of your leg!

: I have a question I have had RA for about 4 years. I had it in my ankle when I first diagnosed. Then it move
: to my knee, I have really lost the muscle in my left thigh to the extent that it has fallen. I have put so much use in my right
: leg that it is taking all the weight and strength. I was wonder if anyone can give me any advice on what exercise to do so I can strenthen this muscle. I'm afraid
: I'm going to loose the use of my thigh. HELP!!
