: I am currently suffering from Crohn's disease, and am on Prednisone, Acithioprine, and others. My doctor has started me on Remicaid. I got my first infusion this morning.
: It took about four hours, and cost about $3000. (For my weight, which is about 230.) They started me out with a shot of Benadryl, because one of the few side affects is a
: allergic reaction when you first take it. My doc says three infusion, about two months between them, and then stop to see how it works. It could hold off the flare-ups indefinitily, or
: we could do infusions whenever I have a flare-up.l
: : : : : : Has anyone ever heard of a medicine called Remicaid. My doctor said it is new and works like ENBREL except that it needs to be given by IV in the doctors office. I am on prednisone, methotrexate, enbrel, Vioxx, Folic Acid, Previcid, Calcium, iron, Darvacet, Glucosamine and Vitamin C. If anyone has heard of Remacaid do you know if it will react with any of these medicines? Any info would be helpful. thanks
: : : : : Chad,
: : : : : Did you ever learn anything more about Remicaid? I have been the same route as you seem to be, and not getting relief. If you have had any further information, I would appreciate hearing from you.

: : : : Bob - My next Dr. Appt is Jan 31st and I will know more about it then. I did talk to the nurse a little and she said it was between 2000 and 3000 dollars a treatment. The treatments would take place like: First the initial treatment, then 2 weeks later, then 4 weeks from the 2 week one, then 6 weeks from the 4 weeks and then every 8 weeks after that. My nurse also said that because it is so new that no insurance company's have approved it yet. She thinks that because it needs to be done in the office it may be able to be run trhu as a medical expense and covered by insurance. I will keep you informed once I hear more at my appointment.
: : : I too am on Enbrel, Methotrexate, Folic Acid, Celebrex, Sulphasalazine, Plaquenil, and others& I am going to have an infusion of Remicaid tomorrow at a hospital. Oddly enough, a good friend has a next door neighbor who also has Rheumatiod Arthritis. He was just diagnosed a couple months ago. I started speaking to him regarding living with this disease. I suggested that he check with his Dr. about a new treatment that I was going to get this week. Well, he had the first infusion last Thursday, & I called him tonight again to see how he was doing. He said that he feels 100% better.
: : Please keep me informed on how this is working for you and your friend. Is your insurance going to pay for this? E-mail me anytime if you want CRM1975@netzero.net Thanks
I too have Crohn's disease. I was diagnosed with Crohn's about 6 years ago. Since then, my troubles have been added to greatly. A little over three years ago I took an on the job injury which resulted in double fusion on my lower spine. Along with all the medicine I alreadt take for my Crohn's I also take multiple medications for pain and mental stress now. I currently am taking 34 pills a day.
I heard from a friend of mine who lives North of where I am in another state who also has been diagnosed with Crohn's along with other medical problems that he has had from the past and is still suffering from, about Remicaid. He has currently had two of the three treatments discribed and when I last heard from him he was back to work feeling like a teenager again. This, to me, was great news to hear since he hadn't been able to work in quite some time. He told me though the the treatments were done on an outpatient basis and that he had paid nearly $4,000.00 each for them. He sounded GREAT, especially since just a couple of months ago when I had last spoken to him was while he was in the hospital. Then he sounded as like a man on his deathbed. I never thought I'd hear from him again, yet to hear how fantastic he is now doing. It was to the point in his life that they were seriously talking about bagging him, as he also suffers from IBD. He is a real inspiration to me and I wanted to share his story with others of us who are suffering and hoping for some REAL answers. Thanks for this message board!!! x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0
