: I am 27 years old, and I had a spinal fusion for scoliosis 10 years ago. For the past 3 years, I have been having a lot of lower back pain, especially at night. The pain is around my ribcage area, primarily on the left side. Each night, after I have been in bed for about five to six hours, I get this terrible, deep ache. The pain is intensified when I take a deep breath. Once I get out of bed, the pain goes away. My doctor keeps telling me that it's muscular, but I'm starting to wonder if it is arthritis. Muscle relaxers do not help, prednisone doesn't help, but Ibuprofen does help. Does this sound like arthritis?? My doctor is going to send me to a physical therapist/orthopedist, so hopefully that will work.

Hi, Tracey.
May sound corny...but if you're a "side sleeper", have you tried putting a pillow
between your knees. This helps whenever I have occasional backaches. I
find the readjusted alignment really does help.
