: I have been on predisone since my diagnosis January 94! As much as 15 mg daily to as little as 2.5 mg daily( that is where I am now). My doc. would like to see me off it completely..but i would like to function without pain! So, I win!!

: As to long-term effects, I can't be sure. I know I had a bone density test and failed! So, Calcium is now part of my routine meds!

: I think predisone is wonderful..and i ain't going to stop!

I would strongly urge you to check with your doc for his thoughts on having bone density tests or xrays from time to time. My son was on high doses of predisone (iv) for a week and then was tapered off with smaller doses (pills) over about 3 months. Recently he had to have major surgery on his hip. The docs believe that the high dosages of predisone he had earlier caused the avascular necrosis that settled in one hip bone. I don't believe the smaller doses of predisone are that dangerous but please be aware that it could possibly affect the bones. I think periodic bone density tests are a great idea.
