In Reply to: Has anyone (female) with RA become pregnant? posted by Anna on March 12, 2000 at 16:39:11:

: I have Rheumatoid Arthritis for a little over two years now. I recently married and was wondering about
: the ramifications of becoming pregnant (with RA). Aside from the occasional inflammation on my left
: wrist, I live a relatively healthy lifestyle. Thanks in advance...
i am 41 years old with a five year old daughter. my pregnancy was a suprise , had stopped taking methotrexate for negative side effects months before. was delighted though my pregnancy was not easy. was on complete bedrest after first trimester and hospitalized for last 8 weeks for difficulty managing pain then high blood pressure probably related to increased pain. was told when fell pregnant would probably feel my best ever, no pain and swelling that my body would be busy with baby.. for me not true. worst pain of my life. my arthritis has become worse and difficult to control since. though i have to say that i would do it again to have my daughter knowing the consequences. though i have no intention of having another child. might be different for you though if you are healthy and young and have a good family support system. i hope i did not scare you, but the doctors do no always tell you the whole story, and you should know there are risks.. but the outcome a baby wonderful.
