: How can I find out more about embril and it side effects - both long and short term?
: My grandmother is 76 and has had very severe RA for years and has tried just about everything. She's on methotrexate and says it does nothing and she suffers terribly. They want her try embril shots, but the thought of an IV narcotic taken long term scares me.
: I want to know more -- please help me find information, if you can.
Our daughter has JRA and methotrexate has only given some relief. The doctor wants to try Enbrel next. We are also concerned about side effects since she is only 5 years old. Enbrel is not a narcotic, I do know that.
It is a genetically engineered drug which either blocks or "absorbs" something called T.N.F., tumor necrosis factor. I don't know exactly how TNF works in RA patients, but it seems to be suspect in causing the swelling and pain.
We are going to go for the treatments. We've heard great things about the results of using this medication. You can get info from the internet simply by typing in "Enbrel". I am worried about using it in my daughter, especially at
5 years old. If anyone else has any information or testimony on the use of this drug on children, I certainly would like to hear from you at NIRYKICH69@juno.com. Thanks and good luck.
