: Can anyone tell me what chostrochondronitis (I'm not sure of the spelling) is? Thanks. Carol
Costochondritis is an inflammation of the ribs, usually the lower 3 or 4, where they connect to the sternum, or breastbone. It is sometimes very painful, especially when you must take a sharp intake of breath---expanding the ribcage suddenly---or cough, or sneeze. I have this condition and I find it helpful to hold a small hard pillow against my chest when I sneeze or cough, if I have enough warning and time to grab the pillow, lol. The pain, when the condition is severe, can feel like it is all over your ribcage, but I think it mostly affects the area I mentioned...,beau
