: Does anyone have any good advice on potty training a 3 year old with autism? Should I even start trying to potty train him? He does walk up to the toilet once in awhile and says "pee pee," but throws a fit when I try to get him to actually go on the toilet. I would appreciate any advice.
We trained my son when he was 4 yrs old. We did a very intensive program at home & school. He learned in about 2 weeks. At school, they even have a desk in the bathroom. They gave him lots of liquids & he sat on the toilet every 1/2 hour. Everytime he had a success he was rewarded. We did the same at home.
We spent many hours in the bathroom. We played games & stuff, but stayed in the bathroom in case of an accident, it's easier to clean up. We gave him lots to drink & just kept sitting him on the potty at regular intervals. He finally got the idea.
