: Hi All,
: I am hoping some of you who are familiar with the use of bethenacol can give me some advice. I received Stephen's prescription of bethenacol today and we
: intend to start using it tomorrow but I have a couple of questions I was hoping some of you could help with.
: 1. I have been advised to give 5mg twice daily (Stephen is 35kg & 7 years old) and the prescription advice states that it should be given 1 hour prior to eating. Is this the case when it is being used as per the Megson protocol instead of as per lisence for urinary retention?
: 2. Do I want to give it separately from any of his other supplements as well or am I better to give it with the CLO, vitamin E & vitamin C or with all of his supplements?
: 3. How long do i leave it before I start to titrate the dose up?
: As we live in the UK it has taken me some time to find a GP, I could see, who was willing to prescribe bethenacol. The GP who prescribed the bethenacol is unfamiliar with its use as part of the Megson protocol
: although familiar to treating autistic children and hence has left it up to me to decide (the prescription states 5 - 10mg twice daily).
: I would be grateful if you could share your expertise!
: Thanks in advance!
REPLY; Jaqui,I thought it was you whoposted that info of Dr. McGinnis onanother board..?? Was it you?? Anyway, both Megson and McGinnis suggest that the first 'dose' be given ina Dr's office as it may cause restriction of the airway and a shot of...forgot what's used..be admisistered immeadiately...as in anaphalactic shock. Then, they send you home with instructions on how to do the rest. If it wasn't your post, let me know, I'll tell you where to find that info. Grandma Peg
