: : Hi! My 3 1/2 year old son has autism and he's on the gf/cf/sugar free/preservative-artifical colors and flavors-additives free diet. This limits his food choices greatly, and it seems like one day he's fine with a certain food, and weeks later he's stimming like crazy from it. It's driving me crazy. One day i can give him a yam, and he's fine. The next week he stims from it. I'll wait a week and try and again, and sure enough, he stims like crazy. I am totally confused about what to feed my child. To date, he's eating potatoes, millet, teff, chicken, turkey, venison, duck, yellow squash, and carrots. I cannot find a doctor in pennsylvania who is knowledgeable or who will even admit to the link between diet and autism. I feel like i'm in this blind, and i'm just not getting anywhere. My son eats enormous amounts of food, yet he only weighs 30 pounds (he's at 7% on the growth chart). after eating, his stomach is bloated and hard, and when he has a bowel movement he arches his back and moves his legs up and down really fast like he's in pain. His pediatrician checks his stomach and says he's "fine". I think she's wrong, but i'm fighting her for a referral to see a specialist. I have a feeling alot of his autistic symptoms are directly related to his stomach. Anyway, a guy at the health food store suggested pancreatic enzymes, and i was wondering if anyone knew of a good brand that has no fillers, artificial colors/flavors, or preservatives. Thanks for your help!

: I am not sure what you mean by Pancreatic enzymes but Kirkman Labs (http://www.kirkmanlabs.com) has a product called EnzymeAid(hope I spelled it right) that helps digest food. Be carefull as I discovered that if there is not enough food to digest it may start eating away at the stomach and cause complications. You need to get your son to a Pediatric Gastroenterologist who is familiar with current research on the link between Autism and the GI tract. I also started using CCK on a limited bases to help promote Bile production, all under the care of a DAN doctor. Amore natural approach would be to use fresh pinapple juice.
