: : Tish, My Autistic Son is 8 now and stimming is a daily part of his life at home. We gradually taught him that there are appropriate places where stimming is okay and home is his 'safe haven'. Stimming is a necessary comfort to counter the stress of self control at school, shopping centre etc. We allow Sam to spin/tumble/babble/bounce on his mini indoor trampoline/ and be solitary every day - particularly after school. If he does not bother anyone, give your child his time out to de-stress at home or in a quiet spot at the park or shops. Our son has time out from class to bounce and run each day at school. This helps him to sit still in class and cope with social difficulties.
