You don't need us to tell you this is unacceptable. You know this yourself. Would you tolerate your daughter treating your grandson like this?
These are children with moderate to profound problems with communication and interaction skills. These are not cured by violence.
Any teacher or other professional who is guilty of assaults of this nature not only needs to find a new profession, they need to worry about criminal prosecution.
I would suggest pulling your grandson immediately from this program, and beginning the due process procedure to get this problem cleared up ASAP.
You will also need to get private services ASAP to undo the harm that has been done to your grandchild. The schools will have to pay for these of course, but you will need due process to get the reimbursement.
I would suggest taking a small pocket sized tape recorder in with you to get these voices on tape for your records. The techer/aides will of course deny anything happened, having them swearing or otherwise verbally abusing the children will go a long way to support your position.
Depending upon the mood of your sped director or county psyche, you may also get them to come in as a witness to view the visual abuses of dangerous restraint. This must be stopped immediately and anyone in the school system which is not part of the solution is part of the problem and needs to go too.
I wish you good luck in this Grandma. You, your daughter, and especially your grandchild are going to need it.
