I don't know about the school zoning, but I do know that when the transportation is provided they also must provide an aide to sit with the child. My grandson is 4 and has been going to school for 9 months. We were very concerned about the busing, but oddly enough, he likes it - or shall I say, he doesn't dislike it. It was an adjustment at first, but after a few weeks he did fine. He seems to enjoy watching the cars, etc. from the bus, but I'm like you, if you can get a school closer, by all means do so.
