In Reply to: A great new magazine on autism-has anyone else heard it? I thoroughly recommend it!! posted by Zara on July 27, 2000 at 03:59:28:

Yeh Hi, I have seen and read a copy of this magazine, it is put together by Polly Tommey, the mother of the little boy that featured on Trevor McDonalds tonight programme as he was the first publicised case of receiving secretin.

I am sure it has improved by now, but I seen the first copy which was a mish mash of information, some really good, others just based on their experiences, so problematic in other areas like diet, some of the recipes would just be a nightmare for alot of aut kids, not because of the gluten and casien as these were ommitted but heavily reliant on sugar as an ingredient, so these recipes can cause even more problems with yeast overgrowths, food intolerance and sugar sensitivity. Some friends of mine seen this publication as a bible of sorts because they had paid for it, and it's not cheap. There is areal difference between a parent handing on their experiences to others and a parent selling a document, which hasn't been as researched as these things need to be. Particlulary when the initial copies were sent FOC to schools etc.

Don't get me wrong information is good but there just didn;t seem to to be the same care taken as with publications by charities such as AIA etc.

Just my thoughts.Angie
