Have you had these boys checked for metal poisoning? Both lead and mercury are very common problems in our children, and one of th notable side effects of both is an increased tolerance to pain, which can encourage head banging, face slapping, etc.
Another problem which can lead to aggressive behavior is intolerance to gluten and casein. The solution is to remove both of these proteins from the diet. Karen Serrousi's book explains this very well, and includes the type of testing needed to see if this is the case. www.gfcf.com also has a great deal of information on this topic.
Good luck to you!
