: : : Our son has had severe feeding problem since well before we new he was autistic. Now we know the root of the feeding problem (ultimate picky eater), but it we are going to be starting an ABA program soon and need more ideas for reinforcements. Also, we would like to know we are not alone with this dilemma. I am new to this site, I wish I found it months ago!!! Everyone is so supportive. We live in a very rural area of Alaska and have had support, but not able to talk to others in the same boat. Also, is there a message board just for ABA discussion?? I thank you for any assistance!!

: Thank you for your suggestions and your news is WONDERFUL to hear!! Our son is non-verbal and will be 35 months when he starts his ABA program. How old was yours? I am worried we are a bit late. I am so looking forward to hearin him speak!! Also the program we are using has discreet trials but also generalizes the teachings from the beginning. Was your ABA program a true Lovaas-type program or a hybrid?? Did you use nutritional supplements like Super Nu-Thera?? I appreciate the information.

Our son was almost 36 months before I began a attempt at ABA program at home. He was totally non verbal among other autistic traits. Between 3 and 4 he showed such improvement with our at home program that our school district agreed to place him in the ABC school featured in Newsweek. He is now nine and is speaking up a storm however we still deal with other issues. He is enrolled in regular ed. with an aid and our biggest joy is that he can actually tell us how he feels and what he wants and what he did. Do not ever think for a moment that it is too late, our son now plays with his siblings, can go anyplace with us, understands almost everything and relates at school. I also use vitamins, like Super Nu Thera (from Kirkmans) and cod liver oil. I never stop looking for good ideas. Also I think the allergy testing is helpful. After taking our son off of dairy we have seen even more improvement. Have you heard anything about Secretin and what do you think??
