Am I the only parent out there that is bothered by the fact that nobody can explain what my child has? I think I have a right to know if my child has a genetic disorder or a learning delay or a physical disease. How is it that pediatricians can diagnose these kids and then wash their hands of them and not pursue any treatments for them?
Insurance companies can deny speech therapy and OT for our children without even being educated about what autism is. I was told by my insurance co that they can't cover these services because my son just has a learning delay. My son was actually diagnosed with PDD. The woman in the appeals dept of my insurance company didn't even know that PDD is in the autism spectrum.
I have had to find out about the gfcf diet from the internet and acquaintances. I think it is inexcusable that we have to get the majority of information about treatments at support groups and not at the Dr.'s offices where our diagnoses are received.
If this is becoming a national epidemic, then it is time for us to find out what is causing this. We have a right to know what causes this. I think sometimes that we get so wrapped up in treating our children individually that we forget there might be a cure out there for all of our children.
