: Hi it seems as if this is a wonderful board. My son is 9 mild to moderate autism diagnosed at 6 His latest thing is smells he can't tolerate the smell of lettuce(I didn't even realize had a smell!) we had a salad luncheon at church today and he went and sat in the far corner. He also can't handle the smell ofHe onions and he WILL NOT go in Bath and Body works (One of my favorite stores.) He has had sound issues for years certain sounds he can't tolerate which I know is typical but has anyone else experienced the smell issue?
Hi, Yes my son also has "smell issues". He is 4 1/2 and has eating problems also. He will only eat a limited number of foods and smells everything. He even "sniffs" while he is eating. It has been a problem for about 2 years. I worry so much because I know he is not getting the nutritional values needed in his diet. The doctors have yet to help me in this area. It was brought to my attention on another board that we should try an oral sensory diet. I haven't learned what that is yet. Any ideas?
My son announced that he was going to go and and "smell" his cousins bedroom today. I guess thats his way of checking things out. We also have the problems of smells in certain stores. He will throw a tantrum if the smells are disagreeable to him.
I wish I had some answers for you, But I too am looking for help. Anyone out there have any ideas? Thanks for listening.
