We also got the "beware miracle cures" advice from the geneticist and various other experts (who cost our insurance company a lot more than my DAN doctor has cost us.)
I remember thinking they wouldn't have to bother with that advice if they had any answers that were worth discussing instead. They assumed we wanted to make an appointment with yet another developmental pediatrician but when I asked what this one could do for us there was an uncomfortable silence for a minute followed by " well probably they could prescribe ritalin".(I am sure with your research you know this only helps a small percentage of autistic kids) We just said "no thanks" and left. We made an appointment with a DAN doctor the next day. I thank God every time I think about it that we didn't get blindlly sucked into their "properly researched and reviewed" dead end.
