D.

Just a quick note to get you started. The Individuals with Disabilities Act is a fedeeral law mandating all schools to provide an acceptable education for our children. After age three - I didn't get your sons age - regardless of their challenges. Go here and read it:

http://www.ed.gov/offices/OSERS/IDEA/

It says that if you think he needs an aid, and hopefully you have some behaviour or other experts who will agree with you, then they must provide it. Do you have a complete team of speech, behaviour, occupational therapy etc? Same thing goes for the bus or anything else for that matter. Consultants, speeach therapy, social activities whatever. Our son's bus ride was supposed to be an hour, but we told them that was too long, and they modified their schedule slightly (got another bus to pick up and drop off) to accommodate him. They have to, it's the law. God bless Clinton for that one. Speak softly and carry a big stick. Ask them nicely, have your facts straight, tell them it is required by IDEA (Code of Federal Regulations 34 Part 300). If you have to, tell the school you'll bring them to the state and tell the state you'll bring them to the federal level, and you'll get what you need. Our school is great so we didn't have to, but by having our facts straight, they haven't messed with us. We have fought with others though so we can help you with that if you need it. Good luck, let me know if you need more.

: His Dad, hello, no I have'nt yet . The teacher said he has been doing alot better these last few weeks. I really feel though , that he would do alot better with one on one attention . Please let me know what ya'll had to do to get your son an aide. Another question I have , this may sound a little silly but, does your son's bus have an air conditioner on there? My son's don't , and he is on the bus for over an hour one way . I have been concerned about this . This is his first year that he stays all day at school, so this is the first time that I have had to really consider what would really be best for him . Thank you for your reply . Your friend , DeAnna in Georgia , God bless:)
