: : : i am looking for parents who have taken their child to the University of Iowa, in Iowa City, in their biobehavioral unit headed under Dr. David Wacker Ph.D...
: : : My son has severe eating disoder, where when he eats he will spit out most of his food he trys to swallow. He is a binge eater, eating constantly for a couple of weeks and than the next few weeks you can hardly get him to swallow anything. All the medical work-up we have done here shows no medical reasoning for this. My son also has severe problem behaviors.
: : : Our autism psychologist at the UAP trained under Dr. Wacker at the University of Iowa and recommended that my son be admitted for 10 to 14 days. They are going to do a full medical work-up, and after results, will implement a behavioral program in eating and behavior control with medications. This is a very intense program. I am hoping to meet some other parents who have experience with this program and willing to share their experience with this.. Thank you MC
: : COMMENT: This sounds like a wonderful opportunity, to have an sutism clinic do evaluation lab tests...but...if they're anything like our children's hospital, Riley in Indy, many of the tests will come back 'within normal perameters'. If they do, please come back, we'll give you some info on biological treatments. You might want to start with Autism Research Institute at www.autism.com/ari A site put up by Bernard Rimland who founded the Autism Societies of America. In the meantime, I sincerely hope and pray that you get some real (definitive) answers from this assessment. Grandma Peg
: P.S. Of course the answers will be 'real', I should have said really definitive answers.G.Peg
