Hi Alison,

You hit the nail on the head! My daughter sounds a lot like your son. I find her irrational fears to be the hardest thing regarding the autism. Your right though, is she just being a typical preschooler of is it the autism? It's so hard to tell and I find myself thinking that every behavior is autistic rather than thinking what she's doing is age appropriate. I've posted a message before saying my husband and I still have a hard time accepting the autism diagnosis. She has eye contact, points to show me something, she's affectionate, imaginative and never did repetative behavior. As I said, her biggest problem are the fears. It's gotten us wondering if it could be something else and not autism. We are getting her evaluated by our school system but it's taking forever! I appreciate your response. It feels better to know this is typical. Thanks.

Nancy
