Hi Sandi!
Glad to see you back at the board. I actually posted a message for you about a week or two ago..maybe you would find it if you scrolled down the messages. Anyway, I just read your post from the other day today.
My uncle had a fusion done in 96 and his surgeon used pedicle screws. I think they were originally used for knee surgeries but are now being used for fusions. I don't think they were approved at the time of his surgery and, in fact, there was a class action suit brought against doctors who use pedicle screws..but ,y uncle was not involved because they worked for him. I think they are now approved though.
Anyway, my uncle had a successful fusion and although he still has pain, it is tolerable. He can bike-ride and dance and do pretty much everything..just not too much of it.
What kind of brace do you wear? I just started wearing a TLSO brace and it is really seeming to help. I don't feel like I'm going to fall over and it makes sitting and standing more tolerable. Do you do exercises to make sure that your muscles don't atrophy? I think I'm going to start up with those again just so, when I take the brace off in a month, I won't crumple!
well, please write again to let us know how you are doing.
every good wish-
Dani
