Yup..the car ride up to maine sucked. And the next day I was in a lot of pain. The card ride back down last night wasn't too bad.
The doctor I saw on friday was the one who suggests the morphine pump. I'm going to my pain mgmt. doctor today, we'll see what she thinks.
Originally, I was thinking I would have a fusion surgery..because two doctors told me it might help. They suggested to me to hold off as long as possible until I couldn't stand it anymore though..but I was ready to do something. Then, another doctor suggested just a discectomy, and now I have two more doctors saying don't do either because they probably won't help. The last doctor I saw on friday suggests the pump until disc replacements are approved by the FDA in 2004. I know he is a very VERY conservative neurosurgeon, but still, I think what he said does make sense.
I'm just scared to have surgery when 2 really well known doctors have advised against it...and, of course, I'd rather not go through the torture if I don't have to.
I don't love the idea of the morphine pump, but I don't know what other choice I have. The oral meds don't get rid of the pain unless I take a certain amount...and then I feel the side-effects.
I know the pump might not even help, and I haven't even done all the research yet..but it is reversible and impermanent unlike the fusion. Plus the doctor assured me that the meds in the pump equal about 1/300th of the dose I would have to take to get the same effect if I took it orally. He also discussed with me the fact that the drugs aren't dangerous to my organs, the way I had said I thought they were.
Anyway, I'm going to see another neuro in boston and we'll see what he says. I'm so sick of going to all these doctors appointments though!!!
well Rick, thanks for thinking of me.
how are you doing? I hope, well? What's going on with the rotated hip? Did you ever get to the bottom of that?
