: hey Trooper Princess-

: What narcotics have you taken? Ultram (tramadol) is NOT a narcotic. It is a non-narcotic pain reliever for mild to moderate pain. I think the usual adult dose is around 50-100 mgs every 4-6 hours. The way it is similar to narcotics is that it can cause dizziness and drowsiness; however, unlike the narcotics, it does not cause histimine reactions (which I have a huge problem with...I get so itchy with the morphine!!!)

: have you tried tylenol 3? what kind of digestive problems do you have? if you get constipated, you should increase your water intake and also take 1-2 stool softeners(it's mineral oil) before going to bed. what kind of pain are you in? aching, burning, stabbing? is the area swollen? what time of the day is it the best/worst??

: I would highly suggest you get another doctor for after surgery care. it's your body..why would you gamble with it? if worse comes to worse just make up some excuse about how it was easier to get an appt. with the other guy. OW! My leg is killing me. sorry..I'm just typing exactly what I'm thinking.

: Really, don't hesitate to get other opinions. it is not worth gambling with your health. PLUS the vioxx isn't even helping you!!

: take care and let us know what you decide-

Hi,
I have also taken Vioxx, for lower back pain. Here is something which you may be interested in hearing. During a dental appointment, the dentist & I were discussing what meds I was currently taking, Vioxx being one of the many. The comment was that dentists frequently use Vioxx for pain after dental procedures, & it's use has been very successful. I explained the reason it was prescribed for me, & remarked how surprised I was to hear of its use in the dental community. My initial reaction was that we were talking about two different drugs, until she went on to explain that the uses of Vioxx are many, back pain being only one of them. Needless to say, I was totally surprised to hear this. Perhaps there is a lot we don't know about Vioxx, as well as other drugs. You might try asking your pharmacist about Vioxx. Pharmicists are very helpful in answering questions or uncertanies one may have about any drug which are being taken, or have been prescribed. In fact,it may be very possible that pharmacists are better informed than the medical community when it comes to drugs, usage, doseage, drug interactions, etc. I had an instance of just that happening about a week ago. My primary care doctor prescribed Lasix, as I have athropy (fluid retention)in my leg and ankles. I also have an allergic reaction to Sulfa. While having the Lasix filled, my pharmacist noticed my Sulfa allergy. Knowing that one of the ingredients in Vioxx IS Sulfa, he informed me of this.I questioned as to WHY my doctor didn't notice this, he stated "he's probably not even be aware of this". I was shocked, mad, & finally thankful he was nice enough to inform me about this. That proved to me the lack of knowledge doctors have, and he readily agreed. It's really a shame that a pharmicist had to tell me this, when in fact it was the obligation of my doctor. After all, he had that exact information about the allergy on my records, which were right in front of him. We trust the doctors with our lives, & they should be the ones whom inform us, as patients, of these important facts! From now on I will question my doctor about these things, before something horrible could happen. There are also many books available on prescription drugs, their useage, doseage, etc. I have found these to be very helpful and informative. Good luck to you in whatever you may decide to do, it's a tough decision, but it's your body, & you have to do the best to protect it. My best wishes for a quick & safe solution for your pain.
