Jill,

Ultram is basically a man made pain reliever that binds itself to the opiod receptors, therefore providing the patient relief from pain. This drug was marketed as a pain reliever that would not cause dependency. They have since changed this because of more in-depth studies after a few yours in the American market. Ultram has been used in Europe for years and once again seems to be safe. It is not classified as a narcotic as of yet, but this could change. I hope you do not think I was being abrasive in my earlier post, but you seem to really be against narcotic pain relievers (understandably so). Please keep in mind that you are going through a rough time right now and most likely would not need to be on anything for a long period of time. Maybe you could express your concerns with your doctor (whichever one you choose) and maybe he or she will be able to determine a timetable for you to be on this type of medicine. I do not want this post to sound to forward, but I have been in the same situation. I personally had internal bleeding from Vioxx and Celebrex even they are marketed as safe on the stomach. If you are worried about liver damage (like myself), I would maybe mention one of the long acting opiod pain killers like (Oxycontin, MSContin). These types of medicine are used because they do not contain aspirin, Tylenol, or an antiinflamiotory counterpart. Also these long acting medications are less addictive because they are time released and build up in your system giving you a steady state of comfort without the ups and downs of 4 to 6 hour narcotics (lortab, percocet, vicodin). Sorry for writing so much but I have read many of your post and you are one of the most caring individuals I have ever come across and I hate to hear that you are suffering. I also wanted to let you know that after I read my post to you, it seemed a little harsh and I wanted to make up for that. I am a Christian myself but soon after I became hurt/disabled I knew that I could not let this pain take control of my life. My feeling are like this: if the LORD works through doctors, and he is everywhere, then he must be helping scientist create medications to help ease our physical pain while on earth. I know that I am talking mostly about narcotic medications, but that is because we do not have to many other things that will actually relieve the pain. I pray often and thank the lord for putting his knowledge into the hands of a chemist that created my medication. Without it, I would not be here today to ramble on. The LORD works in mysterious ways. We must praise the LORD for our every breath and I do not believe that he would want his sheep to suffer when he has provided alternatives. You did not choose your situation, but you are the one who must live in his castle every day. I hope this does not offend you. If it does I am sorry from the bottom of my heart. As you would say - Have A Blessed Day.

Just weigh your options and PRAY. Sounds like you already do, but put it in the LORDS hands. Through the LORD anything is possible. Please keep us informed.
