I am 52 and had 5 back surgeries from '93-99. I am fused at the lower 4 lumbar levels. I had the surgeries because of longtime back pain that was not allowing me to sit. I got worse with each surgery. In a day, I can sit for a total of 5-15 minutes. I have numerous problems but am searching for ways to treat scar tissue pain.
When I had the plate/screws in the L5-S1 level, I laid on some hard surfaces and created a lot of scar tissue. Now I can't lay on my back. I have tried numerous surfaces. I cut out holes in foam so my tissue does not touch. However, the stretching effect causes similar pain. I can't lay long on my sides (hip pain on one side and shoulder pain on the other). I can't stand long periods. I have no position of comfort and I am desparate to be able to lay down and relax.
My pain and rehab doctor has given me Lortab. I use ice packs continuously and they help. He gave me Lidoderm patches which offer some help. I exercise 4xwk in a heated therapy pool.
I am need to find scar pain treatment. I also have been searching for a rehab engineer who could help me make a chair where my seat does not sit. Perhaps something under my thighs could hold me up. I would need back support but cannot touch the scar tissue. I have written a few rehab hospitals and none have offered any program.
I would appreciate any help, ideas, referrals, etc.
