: I never had a problem with my back. I went to the Gym Nov. 6th.. Did the rowing machine and leg stretches. (i Haven't been to the gym for about 6 mos.) I woke up the next 3 days and no problem till the fourth day and my lower back had pain in it. I went to doc gave me SOMA and pain pills did nothing. The pain goes down (sometimes) on the side of one leg. I tried an exercise to see if I had sciatica. (you lay on the floor and put your bad leg up and have someone flex your foot forward. If the pain goes up your leg -- that is suppose to be sciatica. In my case it did not. But I still have pain in my lower back. Is there any exercise that I can do to relieve it? I really don't want to go to Chiro. Somebody said to ride a bike (that doesn't sound to good)

Dear RO:
You may have pulled a muscle, then again, you may have a disk bulge. What did your doctor tell you? Did you tell you to come back, if the pain didn't go away? Since you have already seen your doctor, why not call and speak with his nurse. Tell the nurse what is going on and ask her if your doctor could suggest an exercise. If you have a disk bulge, you don't want to try to do some exercise that could make it worse. If it is a pulled muscle, which your doctor may know after seeing you whether or not you pulled a muscle, your doctor could give you some stretching exercises. You REALLY don't want to take a chance on making your back worse. That is why I suggest talking to your doctor. Take care, PatG
