I feel bad for writing to you all with my complaint because of the things you've been through but I desperately need someone's advice.
For about a year now, I've been having terrible pains in my lower back which are worse at some times more than others. There are times when, for about a week or so, I am in absolute agony and have to restrict my movements and sit down very slowly. Because I can't move around much, my back goes stiff. In addition, the pains go round to the lower part of my stomach which just makes everything worse. Recently, I've also been having sharp pains going down my ribs, particularly when I'm lying down- I don't even know if this is connected or not.
It started off as a throbbing pain on either side of my lower back, but now it hurts differently at different times. Sometimes it's stabbing pains, sometimes sore and aching, sometimes it goes down my legs(particularly my right leg). More recently I've noticed that the pain can come from a particular area on the right side of my lower back. My hips don't exactly ache but more feel like there's a pressure being put on them, especially when I'm lying down.
My doctor has been no help. First he told me I'd strained my back and gave me some anti-inflammatory tablets, but that didn't work. Then he said it was irritable bowel syndrome, then because of a bladder infection, then I was simply 'just growing up'(I'm 17), then, finally, his last diagnosis was that I might be having a miscarriage. I left the doctor's sobbing my heart out and frightened out of my wits.
I really can't stand it anymore. I do my best by trying to keep my back warm as much as I can(that seems to help), but it's hard when you're in Britain in the middle of winter! I just want to know what's wrong with me;as I don't know what's causing it I don't really know what I can and can't do. As you can probably tell, there has been no mention to me of any such things as the scans etc that you all refer to in your emails- I simply get a pat on the head and a few Ibuprofen tablets.
I'm sorry I've gone on for so long, but it's just such a relief to finally be able to say everything that's going on- to people who understand! If anyone thinks they might know what's wrong I'd really appreciate it! I thought that maybe it was sciatica but do you get all the other pains I mentioned with that? I'm pretty clueless on the subject so any suggestions on ways to make things abit less painful would be a massive help. Thank you all so much for listening to me rambling, and with my whole heart I wish you the best of luck for the future.
Linz xx
