Hi Sandy - I'm 37 (female) and recently had a 2-level fusion - at L4-5 and L5-S1. My doc used the BAK cages rather than rods and screws, so I don't know exactly how the recovery time compares, but I'm sure you'll want to wait at LEAST 3-4 months after surgery before you try to get pregnant. Probably longer. (Your doc might even say "no sex for three months") It is definitely something you should talk with your doc about. My surgery was Oct. 5th, and I'm still having quite a bit of pain - taking Rx pain meds, which you would not be able to take if pregnant. When I was researching fusion before my surgery, I did correspond with a young mom who had had a fusion and went on to have a successful pregnancy about a year later, so it shouldn't really cause a problem, except for delaying things a bit. Best wishes to you.
God bless your day!
Jill
