: I have a low back pain condition which is a result of surgery while I was in the military. I also have some lower abdominal pains which are constant. Who or where do I go for help? Is there a doctor who can help both of my problems?

Dear Andy: I have low back(arthritis L4-5, S1-2) problems and pain. I also have irritable bowel syndrome. However, my low back and bowel definitely seem to be connected with the pain. In fact, both hurt in a rather similar way; however, the bowel pain moves in the bowel area. The low back pain follows the line of the sciatic nerve. Regarding a doctor, I would recommend an Internal Medicine Specialist. They deal with ongoing adult problems. (This I learned from an insurance company). If you have further questions, feel free to ask, as I visit these boards almost daily. Take care, PatG
