Hi Eric.My husband James has also had three surgeries on L5S1.All in the past two years. Two diskectomies, and anterior fusion. This was done in may of this year.Your pain is very normal right now. There is a lot of swelling in there.Fusion is big time stuff(like you couldn't tell,LOL).Unfortunately James surgery was not successful again. He will be going for the posterior fusion with rods and pedicle screws sometime in Feb.His pain is absolutely no better than before, but it sounds like you have a good doctor.I am guessing that the first two surgeries were also diskectomies. That is great you even got 6 years out of it.When the disk is herniated it is so easy for it to rupture before the proper healing time is given. This is what happened to James.Well actually, the second surgery did absolutely NOTHING for him.Now we have a failed third surgery,so at this point why not go for number four.Did you have the same surgeon for all three surgeries? What state do you live in?I wish you the best of luck, and do not worry, you are fresh out of surgery, it is going to take weeks before you start to feel better.Take care and God bless.
