Hi NinaG - I also have DDD and am currently recovering from fusion surgery about 2-1/2 months ago. If you are able to keep up your active lifestyle, by all means do so as long as you can. But, do keep in mind that you are only given ONE back in life, and you need to really be good to your back, especially when you have DDD, which, over time, can further degenerate your discs. You need to be very careful with the lifting you mentioned - make sure you're using proper lifting - using your legs, not your back, and ask your doc if there is a limit you should try to adhere to. Is there any way to use wheeled carts or something similar for your samples mentioned? Or, is there some other way you can get around all that lifting? Remember that your back has to last all your life, and you want to be able to enjoy wathcing your child grow up, without being disabled by chronic pain. Also, has your doc given you any prescriptions for pain meds - there must be something you can take when needed. One of the meds I take is Ultram,(thanks to some good advice from an anonymous angel on this very board), and it is NOT an anti-inflammatory, and it does help. Best wishes to you and
God bless your day!
Jill
