Re: terrified of patch
I was on the patch (50mcg) for a little over 2 years. I found that changing them every 2 days instead of 3 worked best for me. I got more steady pain relief as well as decreased skin irritation. The overlay dressings are available for free fron Janzen(the manufactuter) They will send you boxes of 50 as I recall, they send Bioclusive as opposed to Tegraderm they are pretty much the same thing. There is a phone number on the box to call about the dressings. They even ship them 2nd day express mail! For skin irritation you can take an antihistamine. This worked for me for quite a while although eventually i had to go back to an oral med because of the skin irritation (mostly in the hot summer months) If you get skinn irritation just around the edge of the patch the Bioclusive dressing will help with that. Also you can clean the skin where the patch is to go with a little peroxide, they say not to use alcohol as it can change the rate of absorbsion although i never found this to be true. I found them to be an excellent pain med and found that they were less sedating than oxycontin and that they were far more even in relief than oxycontin was. I hope this has helped!
