I just wanted to share with you this book that I have been reading called "Swallowing a Bitter Pill" by Cindy R. Mogil. It's about prescription drug abuse. The lady who wrote it suffered from it, and she also has stories in there from other people who suffered. So far, I have really found it to be helpful. The stories in there ring so true, and you really do see the consequences of taking these drugs long term and they are scary. Plus, there is a lot of good stuff in there about addiction and recovery.
My situation right now--I'm down to 1-1/2 Vicodin per day and taper by half a pill every 4 days (my husband hides them and gives them to me). The dose I take no longer has any good effect for me, and I'm just lately starting to feel sort of crummy--upset stomach and body aches, but I know there's no turning back and this is something I have to go through. My doctor, psychiatrist and therapist have all been very helpful and my family has too. So I consider myself lucky in that respect. I also am very lucky to have this board to come to and get such good support and advice. It really does make it easier, and also to read your stories and hear of your courage and strength. So thank you
