Researchers aren't sure what exactly causes side stitches, but you can try these tips that seem to help people:

-if you get side-stitches when you exercise after eating, try waiting for 30 to 90 minutes after a meal to exercise

-if you're exercising at high intensity, for prevention, do a good warm-up at a slow, easy pace. If you want to increase the intensity of your workouts, do so gradually

-researchers have found that people with better aerobic fitness tend to get fewer side-stitches. So, keep working out at an even pace -- the more you build up your endurance and cardiovascular fitness, the less likely you are to wind up with a side-stitch
