Dad has thyroid problem?

My Dad is approximately 60 years old. He has suffered with depression and malaise for about 10 years, and thinks about suicide a lot. He has taken many different anti-depression medicines. He has had shock therapy. Nothing seems to help very much.

One physical symptom, of which he consistently complains, is the feeling of being hot. Or not being able to deal with heat. He avoids physical activity because he is afraid of overheating and not being able to get cooled down. He sweats a lot.

He tells me that he has had his thyroid tested and it comes back normal. Is it possible that he still has a thyroid problem even though he has tested normal?

I'd like to help him, but don't really know how. Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance!
