Hi, I have an 8 year old daughter with DS but she certainly isn't shy. I, however, was nearly paralyzed by shyness as a child. Looking back I realize my shyness was connected to a lack of self-esteem. When I found something I was good at my self-confidence improved and gradually my shyness went away. I continued to have a mild problem with anxiety though. A couple of years ago it got really bad and I started taking Zoloft. I've been taking it ever since and it has made a world of difference. Anxiety can lead to depression which in turn can also give the appearance of shyness. When my anxiety problems got bad I seemed to withdraw from people although it wasn't quite the same as when I suffered from shyness. I hope this helps. Tiffany
