Re: Bad news

Barbie - I had a very bad time with my second surgery - that was the one to remove the prosthetic hip. But there was a good explanation for that. The infection was very severe and of course all the tissue was really swollen and sore. Then I had to stay in the hospital for more than a month just to receive the antibiotics via a central line in my chest. So, when it came time for me to get my third (and current) hip, I was terrified!! But when I woke up from surgery I couldn't believe that the surgeons had actually done anything! The pain was really very minimal compared to the other 2 surgeries. Of course this time my hip was completely healed from all the infection and inflammation because I sat at home for many, many months before he would try and put a new one in. You certainly have a very complicated history Barbie!! Have you been tested for osteoporosis? It would be pretty unusual to have it at your age, but it could happen and that may have contributed to your fracture. I am very grateful that my last operation in March seems like a success so far. My biggest fear is that I will break the left one or that I'll break my right femur again. But I can't let that fear get in the way of moving and walking again. So far my PT has been good and I'm getting some range of motion back in the hip. I really feel your pain. Keep us informed of what the docs say, ok? All the best - KathyMac
